| Hamptworth Golf and Country Club, Nr Landford,
Wiltshire, hosted the Robin Smith Hamptworth Golf Classic,
on Tuesday 22nd March, as part of the Alan Mullally Benefit
Year 2005.
Ex-England
cricketer and Hampshire County Cricket Club captain,
Robin Smith organised the event as a fundraiser for
the Alan Mullally benefit. His long standing membership
at Hamptworth Golf Club meant it was the perfect place
to hold a golfing event for his team.
Guests included the Hampshire players and officials
as well as the benefit president Matt LeTissier, Alan
Mullally’s neighbour and friend.
Teams of four played an 18 hole Stableford competition,
with the best 2 from 4 scores counting. A shotgun start
at 12.00 pm began the competition. Hamptworth Golf Club
is located on the edge of the New Forest. The course
winds through mature 150 year old woodland and is designed
to test golfing skills and powers of concentration to
the full.
The golf tournament was followed by dinner at the Chef’s
carvery in Hamptworth’s new Clubhouse. An auction
and raffle was held, with prize giving for the competition
winners after dinner.
“Alan Mullally is greatly respected for his cricketing
career. We are pleased that Hamptworth could be involved
in his testimonial year, to raise money for his benefit”,
says Phil Stevens, Manager of Hamptworth Golf Club.
“It was good to see so many international sportsmen.
They all seemed to enjoy the challenge Hamptworth provides.
Matt Le Tissier and Robin Smith regularly play here
but it was great to see them alongside their friends
Alan Mullally and Gladstone Small” adds Phil.
